ABOUT THE GALLERY

HERE gallery front yard

Since they met twenty years ago at the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony in southern California, Katherine Meyer and Gary Barten have continued their practices as visual artists, and today they live together in Eldorado, near Santa Fe, New Mexico. In California, Gary taught at Mission College in Santa Clara and designed and painted for Producer’s Associates and the Woodminster Amphitheater in Oakland. Katherine had several museum shows of her large charcoal drawings during the three years before their move to New Mexico. Katherine continues to work in charcoal, composing landscape imagery from New Mexico, and Gary devotes much of his time to paintings on paper done in ink, acrylic, and tempera color.

This year Katherine and Gary decided that it was time to present their work in Santa Fe and opened the HERE Gallery in July. The name of the gallery is taken from the notion that to really take in what is presented, in drawing and painting, one needs to be present for the work, being here to receive from and interact with it.
